"In Mexico, there's a lot of debate about who the creation belongs to, especially in regards to designs that come from traditional communities versus those produced by brands. With the exception of Vero and one Mexican woman who spearheads marketing, the staff is composed of indigenous women. There is also a playroom for the women's children. Meals and transportation are provided for so that the women can attend the monthly meetings. Everything is well thought out so that they are made to feel welcome in a convivial space that breathes fairness and equality. The association holds professional training workshops and literacy courses for the women to learn. By offering these marginalized women a space to work where they can express themselves, a quality of life to reclaim their dignity, and a structure that fosters professionalism, they gain a sense of ownership. Because of the strong class contrast and marginalization in Mexico, their opportunities were usually limited to domestic help or cleaning services. There is also a spiritual connection that transpires between the weavers, myself, and their weaving."įor a long time, indigenous women were considered as a sub-race. "There is perfection and balance in these women's weaving, and as natural effect of one's mastery over the art, they derive pleasure in excellence. Through her art, we bring her to light," reflects Veronique, known affectionately as Vero. "By proposing to work with a woman's skillset and highlighting it, we talk about the woman. For over two decades, this foundation has provided the strength, consistency and the resilience for El Camino to create together as a collective. That is the philosophy that has been fostered amongst the women since the association's inception. The tradition of Pre-hispanic weaving as solely a feminine activity is still preserved in Chiapas, whereas in other places in Mexico, men also weave using different techniques such as the pedal loom." Their skill is something that has been passed down from mother to daughter. ![]() "The Mayan women have been weaving for thousands of years. And in respect for each community's expertise, the association develops its collection around those skillsets, using backstrap loom weaving. If we give the women chairs, they simply push them away." All the women live near El Camino de Los Altos' work center in the surrounding mountains and weave at home so their normal way of life is not deconstructed.Įl Camino's women come from five municipalities, each with its unique savoir-faire. "We must consider all details such as respecting their close connection to the earth. For Veronique Tesseraud, a texile designer and the founding president of El Camino, the garden is an important element because the Mayan women live outdoors in nature and their daily activity transpires on the ground. ![]() In the old town of San Cristóbal de las Casas, situated 2,200 meters up in the mountain, a garden graces the work center of El Camino de Los Altos where the women gather. At the heart of their partnership is a collective desire: to preserve and transmit the ancient Mayan art of backstrap loom weaving while improving the living conditions and leveraging the value of Mayan women weavers through a thoughtfully-conceived professional and personal growth plan. The 130 Mayan women weavers of the Mexican civil association El Camino de Los Altos and the women designers of its French counterpart, El Camino, have been weaving a remarkable "institution" for the past twenty years. Born from a deep-seated conviction and a desire to eradicate inequality, its rigor, consistency and steadfast vision for solidarity has been built over time. ![]() In the state of Chiapas in Mexico, a Mayan region adjacent to the Guatemalan border, a project by women for women transcends the mere act of making products or operating a business. Yet, why and how we do it, is what determines the true degree of its impact. ![]() The growing surge of socially impactful collaboration is a positive trend of our time. ![]() In California, vacation pay is another form of wages which vests as it is earned (in this context, "vests" means you are invested or endowed with rights in the wages). For example, an employee who is entitled to three weeks of annual vacation (15 work days entitlement per year x 8 hours/day = 120 hours vacation entitlement per year) who quits on Aug(the 219 th day of the year) without having taken any vacation in 2002, who has no vacation carry-over from prior years, and whose final rate of pay is $13.00 per hour, would be entitled to $936.00 vacation pay upon separation, calculated as follows: In contrast to how vacation pay may be earned, the calculation of vacation pay for terminating employees (a quit, discharge, death, end of contract, etc.) who have earned and accrued and unused vacation on the books at the time of termination must be prorated on a daily basis and must be paid at the final rate of pay in effect as of the date of the separation. ![]() Thus, for example, if an employee is entitled to two weeks (10 work days) annual vacation, and works full-time, eight hours per day, 40 hours per week, in the above example for each week the employee works at least one full day, he or she will earn 1.538 hours of paid vacation, calculated as follows:ġ0 work days entitlement per year x 8 hours/day = 80 hours vacation entitlement per yearĨ0 hours vacation entitlement per year ÷ 52 weeks per year = 1.538 hours of vacation earned per week For example, an employer's policy may provide that an employee will earn a proportionate share of his or her annual vacation entitlement for each week of a calendar year in which the employee either works at least one full day or receives at least one full days' pay during such week. An employer's vacation plan may provide for the earning of vacation benefits on a day-by-day, by the week, by the pay period, or some other period basis. In California, because paid vacation is a form of wages, it is earned as labor is performed. ![]() Download the Readfield, Maine Topo to your GPS ExpertGPS even has a way to download the latest trails and roads from OpenStreetMap so that you can see the latest mapping changes that have occurred since USGS created your map in 1980. Perhaps patches will fix this along the way, but why wasn't that a day one feature for the PS5 version? The answer may lie in the fact that these are essentially the PS4 versions running in PS5's backwards compatibility mode, but still, there are clear graphical enhancements over its initial release such as massively improved models and textures, enhanced draw distance, refreshed (read: less washed out) colour pallet, better HDR colour contrast and far less bloom on lit objects, but all this pales into obscurity when it's so laggy and underwhelmingly boring to play. In the opening options you can choose Quality, Performance or Ray Tracing, and I opted for the latter for most of it to see how it would shine on the PS5. However, the frame rates noticeably fluctuated wildly unless I reduced this to Performance mode, whereby you seem to get a more solid 60FPs on the PS5. Add into this some horrendous frame drops and some heinous stuttering around every single save point, and you are reminded of actually how bad the underlying code of the game can be, regardless of SSD loading and modern methods of adding graphical spit and polish to the incredibly technical visuals of the time. Playing through the original Crysis again I was shocked at just how unmoved I was at getting to re-play a game that became a meme for how demanding it was to run Sure, it looks great, and it's an open-world sandbox of possibilities and exploration for Nomad and his crew, but to me, it feels murky and bland to have to endure again, even with gorgeously upscaled graphics and massively improved visuals. The game itself was set in 2047 and definitely had that sci-fi aesthetic nailed down, from the corridors to the sprawling city it was incredible, but it was shorter than the others and lacked the thrilling, all-encompassing grip of the second game. ![]() I remember the showcase for it touting incredibly realistic water effects, lens flares, particle generation, volumetric shadows, tessellated vegetation, wind and weather including clouds and rain, and procedurally generated lighting that just blew the socks off of everything around it to give it the most hyper-realistic look that you could possibly get on your hardware without needing to buy an uber PC to run it. The graphics were superb, the presentation immense, and the storyline almost literally out of this world. As the evolution of this series demonstrates there were huge advancements in graphical fidelity and post-processing effect that would see Crysis 3 still using the CryEngine 3 but looking leaps and bounds ahead of the majority of games available in 2013. The third and final instalment was an altogether beefier animal. Procedural damage, dynamic day-night lighting, upgraded AI with advanced cover and attack tactics, and most importantly new facial animation tech meant we would be getting something a lot more polished and incredibly nice to experience throughout. This was the game I wanted the original to be, and this was my clear favourite when I finally got it for my PS3 on release and got to witness the power of the CryEngine 3 SDK. Crysis 2 massively outdid the original which was effectively a sandbox demonstration of what the series could be capable of, but then again it had taken CryTek 4 years to make. ![]() It focussed on a rather familiar, yet incredibly upgraded, jungle and beach style environment similar to Far Cry from the same developer, though it definitely deviated further and further into a sci-fi extravaganza as it hurtled through hives and decimated post-apocalyptic landscapes.Ģ011's sequel was a far more refined jaunt that felt akin to how Half-Life 2 propelled the original out the window and became THE version to play. It would have more expansive and destructible environments, more cinematics and more effects all at once than you could shake a stick at thanks to its propriety CryEngine 2. ![]() Back in 2007, Crysis promised to be revolutionary.
